Abe Brown Contemporary Paintings
Abe Brown
Brooklyn, New York (1922–2009)
Abe Brown was born, raised and lived all his life in Brooklyn, New York. As a young man, he was part of
the “greatest generation” that served proudly in the U.S. Army. Although his profession was in retail sales,
his passion was for art. His extensive travel all over the world exposed him to the beauty he recreated
in his paintings. Abe enjoyed spending his leisure time with his family and took pleasure in painting the
idyllic scenes from his memory. His paintings will always be a reminder of the joy he brought to us.
Abe would also photograph scenic landscapes, and then painted scenes from his photographs. By slightly altering the palette and composition, he imbued the natural landscapes with an artistic sense of balance.
He specialized in the use of acrylic paints.
Before his service in the U.S. Army, Abe had a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers. In fact, he lost his vision later in life due to complications (cataracts and detached retinas) from being hit in the head by a line drive
as a young man.
Abe Brown is a World War II veteran who studied at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
